Audit Universe
A comprehensive inventory of auditable processes and entities in an organization.
The audit universe is the complete list of all domains, processes, systems, and entities that can be audited. It forms the basis for the risk-based annual internal audit plan. It is updated regularly to reflect organizational changes and is established collaboratively with management and validated by the audit committee. Each element is assessed based on inherent risk level to prioritize engagements. A well-structured audit universe demonstrates audit coverage and optimizes resource allocation.
